Workshop Description:


A workshop with Jeannie Paty for beginner & intermediate oil painters who want to learn the foundations of color & value relationships plus mixing color to strengthen their painting skills & discover their own artistic voice.


In a fun & relaxed setting, students will paint a fresh floral arrangement and also paint from an inspiring selection of their own choice. Emphasis for this workshop is to understand value & color relationships and why they are closely tied together for a successful painting. Learn the fundamentals of interpreting what you see as an artist, mixing clean color, and simplifying value patterns so you can express color the way you wish. Elements of composition & paint quality will also be explored. Workshop is designed for beginner/intermediate oil painters.



Portable easel
Mixing surface (i.e. plastic palette or disposable)
Palette knife
Paper towels
Odorless mineral spirits (e.g. Gamsol)
Container for odorless mineral spirits


Inspiring reference material of your own choice (bring your own printed photos, laptop or tablets to paint from)
Several canvases or panels, recommended size range: 11 x 14 or smaller (bring 3 of this size for mixing exercises; these can be inexpensive), 16x20 (bring 1 good canvas of this size for a painting)
Brushes: a variety of good flats, filberts and rounds in sizes small, medium and large bristle brushes (good range of sizes: 2,4,6,8,10,12; make sure to include your large brush)
