    Thomas Nicholas Born: Middletown, Connecticut, Sept. 25, 1934

    Studied:

    with Ernst Lehrmann 1949-1953 Scholarship: After formal studies as a scholarship student at the School for Visual Arts, NYC, from 1953-56, Tom was awarded a Greenshield Grant for two years of independent painting abroad and in the USA.

    Awards:

    1957 The Young Artist Prize at Rockport Art Assoc. 1958 Grand Prize Meriden Arts and Crafts Assoc. 1958 New England Outdoor Scene Prize at Silvermine Guild of Artists. One of the youngest members ever elected to the National Academy of Design, Tom has been honored with nearly 200 awards and 40 one-man shows throughout the country.

     

    Thomas Nicholas has been painting professionally for over half a century. He has attained an esteemed position as one of the country's most widely recognized landscape painters. He has painted on location in many of the world's most magnificent settings including, of course, the coast of Maine. His paintings are noted for their elegant composition, fine detail and romantic sensibility.
